About Us
The Covenant Association is one of the five associations that make up the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ. An association, according to UCC polity, is a group of churches in a compact geographical area, whereas a conference covers a larger region.
Covenant came into being in 2016, as a result of a merger of three previous associations, Reading, East Berks, and Heidelberg. The Schuykill Association voted not to join the new group. The impetus for the new association was a desire for greater cooperation and fellowship among the member congregations. It was also expected to provide a greater pool of shared resources.
The Covenant Association functions through a few important committees, including the Committee on Ministry (COM). This group oversees ministers who have or are seeking ministerial standing in the Association, and it also shepherds Members in Discernment (MIDs) as they travel the road toward ordination. Other committees include the Nominating and Executive Committees. The Association provides members to the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference’s (PSEC) Consistory.
